Library Searches and Materials

The public is invited to use our facilities and materials to do family history, special projects and subject research. The Nicholson Research Library and the Genealogy Department are tremendous resources for any reseach subject. Our voluteers are eager to help you find the information you are hunting and/or doing research for you.

This work was compiled by Grace Philips and presented to the Society by Paula and Francis Howe.
 
"A Study of West Eighth Street Grocery Stores"
These stores were located between Meridian Street and Raible Avenue(1896-1996). Presented to the Society by Mrs. Schafalia Wise of Lapel and Susan and Joe Carney of Anderson.
 
"Building on a Firm Foundation"
This book is the Waymire and Brissenden Family Album presented to the Society by Donna Patten of Utah.
 

Family Files and History

Please be aware that we can not do complete family histories, but can provide you with names of local genealogists for your in-depth research. However, if your query, is minimial, our volunteers may be able to help you. Since much of our correspondence is now in the form of emails, please feel free to use that method also.

If your query is for detailed materials and in written form, please provide an SASE large enough to send that material(s) to you with the appropriate postage. Any donation to cover the cost of paper for copies of files, additional postage and/or the purchase of additional materials will be greatly appreciated.

 

Special Notice

Most government offices have tightened their security; therefore, requests for birth and/or death certificates require an ID and, usually, a signature. Forms need to be filled out by you to obtain these types of records. Please be aware that the death certificate that you will get pretains to only that person.

Birth Certificate

Birth certificates may be requested from the Madison County Health Department. A valid ID and signature must be shown on the application. Birth records are available to the individual or a member of his(her) immediate family only. If you are making a request by mail, please include a copy of your driver's license or other ID.

   

 
Genealogy site Ancestry.com has digitized more than 90 million U. S. War records. These stretch from 1607 to 1975. However, it does list soldiers killed in Iraq. Visitors can access the records for a fee.
